My name is LAURA
…(but you can call me Lau). I am the creator of PictoSpanish.
I am specialised in teaching both English and Spanish (English is my favourite language, really).
I enjoy teaching languages as I think that learning a second language is an essential life skill. I also find it very rewarding and worthwhile as a teacher.
I began my teaching experience in the UK (Newcastle to be more precise). To be honest, it was a quite challenging time of my life since I didn’t understand a word of the Geordie accent, but at the same time, it helped me to improve my listening skills and English in general. After that, I taught Spanish in Málaga, a beautiful city located in the South of Spain, and then in Sydney (Australia), which was an amazing experience. Finally, back in Spain, I am continuing my career in Madrid, where I am settled.
When it comes to work, I am a supportive and a friendly person, hardworking, organised, professional and very committed to my job (that’s how students have described me anyway).
WHY PICTOSPANISH?
Lately, I have jumped into online teaching, realising that it’s great! Teaching online I can get to the infinity and beyond.
For this reason, I decided to create PictoSpanish; a place for those students who prefer to learn by using visual resources and techniques and also, for those who are passionate about comics and illustrations. Oh! I haven’t told you yet but, I am too!
The main idea is to learn Spanish, but also to share our hobbies and interests. This will support and improve your learning without noticing it! You can start by reading my blog.
LET ME TELL YOU A BIT ABOUT MY QUALIFICATIONS
I’ve always liked education and English language, that’s why I decided to study a University degree as English Teacher for Primary Education.
In order to specialise myself as a Spanish teacher and to keep my teaching skills up to date, I took several training courses such as FELE (Certificate at Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language), Teaching Spanish Online Certificate and DELE (A1-A2) examiner qualifications in order to improve my skills as a Spanish Teacher.
Since graduating from University I have gained confidence in my skills as a teacher. The fact that I have worked in a variety of job positions in different countries has given me the confidence in teaching situations when handling challenges. Also, it has built up my experience working with students of different backgrounds, nationalities, levels and ages.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME
I guess that what you expect from a good teacher is proffesionalism, well structured lessons, speciffic objectives to achieve, lessons adapted to your needs, a suitable learning environment for you, and so on.
Well, that’s me too! Congrats! 
However, what I highlight of my personality and work as a teacher is that I try to create an atmosphere of trust in my lessons. Feelings and emotions are very important when learning a language too, that’s why I always listen to my students with intent. I want you to feel comfortable in my lessons so you can make the most of it. If you feel good, I’ll feel even better! 
By achieving that, your ‘fears’ about speaking will start to fade. Let’s communicate without barriers!
Building up a good connection with my students is essential so that you get good results in your learning process. I’ll keep you company along the journey. However, this is a fifty-fifty shared task. Without students’ own work, it would be much more difficult to reach your goals. I’ll help you set your goals and achieve them.
